Poetry Month Mash-Up: Day Eleven

Rena gave us a really hard one today: "Please go to the online version of Poetic Magnetic Poetry Kit by clicking here. Use the words displayed to create a poem."  This was way harder than I thought it would be!  Plus, I didn't get home until after 9:00 tonight so I'm really pressed for time!  These magnetic letters are fun to use - you should try it!  Here's my poem:

K is for my Kids

Poetry Month Mash-Up: Day Ten

J is for Jingle
Just got home and I'm feeling the pressure of having to write a poem for day eleven of the A to Z Poetry Challenge!  Rena's challenge for today is to "write a jingle that promotes your blog, website or yourself."  Yikes!  I started writing a complicated ad then a quick, easy one popped into my head - thank goodness!!  Here it is, along with the original jingle from the 60s.

When habitual rhyming's got you in a tizzy,
Just plop yourself down and write something fizzy!

Wrote this, post this,
Oh what a relief it is!

Poetry Month Mash-Up: Day Nine

Wow, this was the hardest poem for me so far - I guess because inspiration, to me, is a serious thing so it required a serious poem.  Here goes nothing . . .

I is for Inspiration

I'm inspired by the poor to appreciate my wealth.

I'm inspired by the sick to appreciate my health.

I'm inspired by the homeless to appreciate my house.

I'm inspired by the widow to appreciate my spouse.

I'm inspired by the childless to appreciate my boys.

I'm inspired by the deaf to appreciate the noise.

I'm inspired by the lonely to appreciate my friends.

I'm inspired by the journey to appreciate the end.

Poetry Month Mash-Up: Day Eight

H is for Haiku and Hero

Today on her blog, Rena Traxel has challenged us to write a Haiku about our childhood hero.  Just to refresh your memories - a Haiku is a three-line poem in which the first line has five syllables, the second has seven and the third has five again.  You can link them together to tell a story.

It took me less than a second to think of my childhood hero - here's my Haiku about her:

My Mom

I have a hero
And it's someone you should know.
My hero's my mom!

She raised four children,
On her own, without much help
Not an easy feat.

No cape and no mask
Only the power of love
To shield us from harm.

The Sun is Shining on my Blog!

A couple of weeks ago, Elizabeth Stevens Omlor awarded me the Sunshine Blog Award!!
Thanks so much, Elizabeth!  I'm glad we got Sundays off from the A to Z Poetry Challenge so I could finally write this post!

According to the Sunshine Blog Award rules, I must:
~ Include the award's logo in a post or on my blog
~ Answer 10 questions about myself
~ Nominate 10-12 other fabulous bloggers
~ Link my nominees to the post and comment on their blogs, letting them know they have been nominated
~ Share the love and link the person who nominated me

Here are the ten questions and my answers:
1. Favorite color: Purple is my favorite color - with orange as a close second.
2. Favorite animal: Dogs are my favorite domestic animal and lions are my favorite wild animal.
3. Favorite number: For some reason, 32 is my favorite number - don't ask why because I don't know.
4. Favorite non-alcoholic drink: Are there any?  Seriously, water is my favorite drink.
5. Facebook or Twitter: Facebook, definitely
6. My passion: This is a hard one!  Laughter is just one of my passions!
7. Prefer giving or getting presents: I love when I find something I know someone will love and it's a gift for no reason!  I also love when I receive a gift for no reason that I know someone put thought into picking it out.
8. Favorite pattern:  Wow, I never really thought about a favorite pattern.  I'm really not sure what that means?!  I guess I'd say patterns found in language.
9. Favorite day of the week: My favorite day is Saturday because you don't have to wake up early and you can go to bed late.
10. Favorite flower: I love Hydrangeas - mostly because they're prominent in my favorite movie, It's a Wonderful Life.

Here are the people I'm giving the Sunshine Blog Award to:
Jenni Bielicki
Michelle L. Brown
Pamela Courtney
Leigh Covington
DL Hammons
Sarah Hardy
Alison Hertz
Cynthia Iannaccone
Penny Klostermann
Suzanne Payne
Rena Traxel
Natalie (I don't know her last name)

Winners - go forth and spread the sunshine!!
